Greg Burton

The Desert Sun

Greg Burton is executive editor of The Desert Sun, DesertSun.com, Desert Magazine, Desert Outlook and related mobile and digital ventures. He began his career at a small daily in Idaho writing about wilderness and politics. He moved to California in 2011 after leading a team in Delaware to an online Emmy for its coverage of Joe Biden. An award-winning reporter and editor for 25 years, his investigations prompted federal crackdowns on Delaware's prison system and state mental hospital. At The Salt Lake Tribune, he exposed the practice of forced incest and child abuse within Utah polygamous clans. Before the 2002 Winter Olympics, he uncovered secret gifts to the International Olympic Committee and he helped chronicle the emergence of Mitt Romney as a national figure in the aftermath of the bribery scandal. Today, he is leading The Desert Sun's mobile evolution and emergence as a key investigative news source in California, examining water, renewable energy and pension excess. Under his editorship, The Desert Sun has won national and international recognition from Stanford University’s Knight-Risser Prize for Western Environmental Journalism, Associated Press Media Editors and the International News Media Association. Greg and his wife Kyla have two children.
